Well yesterday was my first preparation day and today is my second. I know confusing. It is because I switch from beginning spanish to intermediate spanish so I basically just switched my whole life. I'm in a new everything. I have new companions but it is kinda weird currently. I wrote you a hand written letter to explain, but since I have the time I decided why not write you another email. You should feel really loved. And I am a little worried because I haven't heard from anyone since I've been here, with the exception of Elise Noorda. Did you think I died or something? Or did you die? I'm not sure which. So moral of the story is write me. My preparation day is on Fridays now. My new mailbox number is 216, so send me love notes!
So because I was blessed with two preparation days in a row you now get to learn more about my first week here in the MTC. Sorry if things repeat I kinda forgot what I told you already. The difference between elders and hermanas is large. Being here has let me look into their confusing little brains. They are still confusing but I am starting to understand. They do things like wrestle in their suits, or eats enormous amounts and talk about irrelevant things. It is funny to see the elders that have been here for longer than others are so much more mature. The hermanas are hard working. We are there for a purpose and most of us have incredibly strong testimonies. The elders try to behave themselves when hermanas are around but sometimes I catch of them. They also love saying hi to the hermanas. It like we are their last hope for love or something. I'm not sure what it is but it makes me laugh.
The MTC is a great place. It is really cool because everyone is speaking a different language. I have quickly found out that there aren't many sister that go internationallly. I'm special !!! Chiste! But there are a lot of spanish speakers, hermanas and elders that are going state-side. I'm convinced that the MTC would be a completely different experience if i werern't learning a language. Something that one of my teachers said that has really stuck with me is that we must have faith to speak our language when we don't it is a sutle form of pride. Pride becaus eyou don't want to mess up or look like a fool. I really thought that was awesome. I am also convinced that I would get bored and prideful so that is why I am learning a different language. The english sisters are so full of energy alll the time!!! I don't understand it. By the time 8:30 comes around I am begging to so go to bed. 9:00 is my favorite time because that means that I get to plan and then get in my cozy bed. and that is always delightful.
I saw Lauren Word. She left on Monday though for DC. I have also seen some other people that I know. Mostly form Jeusalem. My companion Hermana johnson knows Aric Pahnke. They were the same major. Small world.
So today we had preparation day which means we don't really have to be ready for breakfast but we still have to wake up at 6:30 everyday (which by the way dad I have been awesome at getting up that early so no making fun of me ever again!). Well today my companions decided to get up at 6:10... What the?!?!? Not a good start, but I took it like a champ. I think they might be kinda annoyed with me invading on their companionship, but hopefully everything works out.
I have a scripture to share. 3 Nefi 14:7 'By the fruits of their cookies shall you know them" I am still waiting on those! :)
I guess one of the biggest things that I have learning thus far is that you are not important. You are not the teacher, the spirit it. When you listen to the spirit and the needs of your investigator that is when you convert people to come unto christ. Without the spirit you are just saying words. It is really spectacular how the spirit works while you are teaching. One of the most frustrating things for me the first few days and even now is when you are prompted by the spirit to say something but you don't have the words to express what you are supposed to say in spanish. SOOO FRUSTRATING. I have learned though that if you focus on the investigator and not what you want to say or how you are going to repsond the words miraculously come. Miracles truly do happen every day. A strange thing happens here at the MTC when you focus on the doctrine the language comes, when you don't focus on the doctine and instead focus on the language you struggle! Very strange, but a great reminder that everything comes through God. He is the teacher here. Missionaries are nothing without him.
We heard an excerpt from elder holland where he said 'you are the lord's investigator." Everything that we want to for out investigators God wants for us. He wants us to pray more sincerely, study more dilligently, ponder more deeply, to know with deeper understanding. That is why we are here in the MTC so that we can convert ourself to help other come unto Christ through our own experiences and our testimonies and through the holy ghost. First we must obtain the word.
Alright I really am out of things to say. I'd love to hear from you all and know what is going on in the outside world. My new address is...
