Salt Lake City Temple- April 3, 2012

The Salt Lake Temple is the iconic temple. It is the temple of all temples. It should be it took forever to build and its huge! The Salt Lake Temple to me is kinda like a barbie. A barbie you ask? Let me explain. Barbies are practically perfect. The only thing wrong is that they are plastic. They aren't real. They are all looks. That's kinda how I felt about the Salt Lake Temple, not saying that it isn't real, you just don't really fully understand it until you are in it. All growing up when you sing, learn, look at temples it is the Salt Lake Temple. When you go up to Salt Lake City you think of the temple as a monument, the gem of the city. You go to temple square and you see these beautiful brides standing in front of this gorgeous building with its many spires and meticulous details. It seems just like a place to take pictures by. To prove my point there is a pedestal positioned perfectly so that if you stand on it you can get the whole temple in the picture. You see couples standing in front of one of the many sets of doors that never open and it gives you the impression that the temple is sealed off.
You never really imagine going inside, but think of it as its architecture. When you actually do enter the temple you enter into an annex that was built later off the side of the temple. They built this faux entrance. It was a little odd being in the Salt Lake Temple. It feel a little unreal to be honest. There is no real words to describe the inside of the Salt Lake Temple. It is unlike any other temple with it beautiful mural and detailed woodwork. Did you know that it only took a year to complete the inside of the Salt Lake Temple? Me either. Another testament that they pioneers were CRAZY... a good crazy! You thought the outside was remarkable. It is just taste of the inside. You walk into the lobby and you are already floored but then as you actual progress through the temple it is absolutely unreal the craftsmanship. You go into each room and you think nothing can compare to this room, then you move to the next room and the thought 'those crazy pioneers' crosses your mind. There was definitely divine help in completing this temple. It also shows how no expense is spared for the Lord. Everything in there is the best and not so that people like me can marvel and the beauty of it but a sign that this is the House of the God and God should be given the best. The dedication it must have took to complete the temple is admirable. The temple is a testament of the faithfulness and faith of the pioneers. As if crossing America wasn't enough, building a third temple,  in which nothing can compare is just humbling to me. Would I be willing to do that? How much more can I give to the Lord? While I was astonished at the temple I kept thinking about my own ancestors. Did they sacrifice their time and efforts to help build the House of the Lord? If they did I hope that I can live up to their legacy and sacrifice my life and time to building the kingdom of God without even thinking about it twice. I hope that I will be able to sacrifice my life and talents to the Lord all my life as my ancestors did.

  1. I LOVED going to that temple. I went when I was pregnant so it was really hard for me to really appreciate everything. (I was pregnant - which made me super hot and unable to sit for very long) I want to go back sometime again so I can really try to take in where I am and how amazing it really is. I think going in that temple is one of the best things ever.
